This shoot was based on Andrew Howe's 'Going underground' project, I travelled around London by train in order to photograph different locations. The stations I went to were Bank, Waterloo, Bermondsey and Tottenham Court Road, most stations I went to looked the same so I tried to go to locations that provided different settings and this was the outcome. Andrew Howe's work has a feeling of isolation, he was able to achieve from his composition and editing style, his photographs are mainly black and white with the contrast turned low which darkens the image, this gives the photographs an eerie atmosphere.
The edited images that was inspired by the artist is shown below, I picked out the best shots and edited them in mainly black and white except for a few that I thought looked better in colour. I wanted to try and show isolation like Howe did so I made sure to not include any people in my photographs and to fit my theme, 'Apertures' I tried to look for tunnels and openings such as the top of an escalator where there is an open space.

Contact sheet:
The photo shown above is a small portion of all the images that I took for this shoot, just by looking at the contact sheet there is multiple photographs for the same subject, this is is to ensure that I have a variety of choices to choose from when I edit them. Since this shoot is mainly based on the composition of the photograph, I feel like having multiple images like this, with slight movement of the framing is good so that I do not need to retake any shots.

The two images on the left side are two edits that I made using triangles, this was inspired by Tumblr images and geometric patterns that I found online. For the first image I made it black and white using the hue saturation adjustments and then duplicated the image and flipped it horizontally. I then used the lasso tool to create a triangle and added a quote on top. For the second image, I adjusted the brightness/contrast to make the colours pop more in the image. |
I wanted to experiment with the keyhole cutout that I used for my first shoot, but instead of using the physical cut out like the first shoot, I used one of my photographs and used the lasso tool to outline the keyhole shape and then deleted the image inside the keyhole to create a digital keyhole cut out. For the first image shown above, I adjusted the colour balance to make the image cooler and placed the cutout on top changing the opacity to 72% to make the bottom layer visible. I then selected the keyhole layer and blurred the photograph in the black areas of the image so that the visible bits of the photo stands out more.
This is the process for the second image, except that I did not blur the image at all and the third image, instead of blurring, I used the stained glass effect.
